How to Stay Keto (and Still Relax) at Your Next BBQ

Ah, the barbeque, a summertime staple. It’s that delightful time where friends and family come together around red-checkered picnic tables and...oh yeah, piles of (not very low-carb) food. Lucky for you, we’ve put together our favorite pointers to help you stay keto at your next barbeque:

#1. Avoid the sauces.

You heard that right. Almost any sauces you’ll find at your neighborhood barbeque will be jam-packed with sugar. You can bring your own (we’re loving these classic and Carolina-style BBQ sauces), or simply stick with the meat and veggies.

#2. Make a crunchy sammy.

Want to have some fun minus the bun? Instead of munching on your burgers or hot dogs in bread, wrap them up in lettuce for that crunchy keto sandwich of your dreams.

#3. Don't snooze on the booze.

Boozing? That’s great, but watch the carb count. Hard liquor with sparkling water is a match made in low-carb drink heaven, and zero-carb pre-mixed drinks are another fantastic option.*

*Try this recipe for margaritas with only 3 net carbs per serving and you’re guaranteed to be the life of the party.

#4. Choose cheese...

...over fruit. While watermelon slices and grapes are refreshing, they’re chock-full of fructose. Instead, go for a cold and creamy slice of brie (under 0.1 carbs per ounce!)

#5. Hydrate or die-drate.

Drink water! This may not be keto-specific, but we know you’re going to be so busy having fun that you’ll need a friendly reminder to stay hydrated in the summer heat.

#6. Bring your own desserts.

We know that grocery store sheet cake is enticing, but if you’re prepared with your own pack of sweet snacks, you’ll be riding up on cloud 9 (pick up a Variety Pack here).
